About Primitive Travel

My name is Stephen Sexton, and I’m a published travel writer from the Gold Coast in Australia. After living in New York City for over six years, it was a summer spent travelling around Alaska in 2010 that changed my life. Taking inspiration from the adventurous souls I met up there, I decided to quit the financial world and become a casual teacher instead. This job would give me the freedom and flexibility to travel to the world’s most beautiful locations and pursue my love of trekking in the mountains. Thus began a journey of consistently simplifying my life so that I could step away for long periods and live like my inner caveman. The distances I travelled became longer and longer and my confidence in what I could achieve grew with it.

Humans have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to live outside in nature, to roam vast distances and explore new horizons. The modern world, with all its comfort and convenience does nothing for our spirit. I am convinced that the more we live like our ancient ancestors did, the happier we will become. Long distance hiking is the perfect way to do this. Additionally, you will develop resilience as you overcome challenges, lose a ton of weight and meet amazing people along the way.

I am looking forward to introducing my beloved dog Molly, an Australian Kelpie, to trekking in the near future, a move that will no doubt further enrich the experience. Stay tuned for more epic adventures!
